So ... what to do?
Change the way you think.
I know ... that sounds facetious, doesn’t it? I mean it, though. Change the way you think.
Stop thinking about losing weight.
Start thinking about getting happy and healthy.
Think about getting happy and healthy.
Now, what’s it going to take to get you happy and healthy?
Eat less, and
Be more active.
That’s it. That’s all there is to it.

Most people who ask me to help them get smaller tell me they want to get smaller because when they’re a size 12 rather than a size 18, they’ll be happy. Those same people often have problems with their hearts. They tried dieting to lose weight and were still fat, unhappy and unhealthy. Here’s the shocking truth:
Low fat diets make you fat.
Low carb diets hurt your heart.
You need some fat, and you need some carbohydrates. Your granny was right. A little of what you fancy does do you good.
Unless you are completely out of control and can eat six packets of crisps when you only meant to eat one (in which case you certainly do need help) your best bet is probably to just reduce your portions. But you can’t do that without working on your mind at the same time. Did you see the lady on the extreme makeover (cosmetic surgery) show who got rid of loads of weight and was miserable because she had substituted excess shopping for excess eating, and was behind with the school fees? Or the anguish a certain well-known TV presenter is going through on Celebrity Fit Club?
You can’t just deal with your body in isolation. You have to take care of your mind too. That’s why hypnosis is the only complementary therapy proven to work in reducing body weight. (Read the evidence here.)
Our bodies were designed to store fat because 50,000 years ago no one knew when the next bison was going to get caught and we didn't have freezers for the leftovers; two great reasons why we stuffed ourselves to bursting when we could. These days you're never more than moments away from another meal if you want one. Sadly, we haven't evolved as quickly as supermarkets so we can, and do, still eat in a way that hasn't been appropriate for a very long time. But you can eat differently if you decide to.
So ... decide to. Now.
And while you're at it, forget about losing weight. I mean it. You lose things by accident, and want to find them again: a purse, a bet, a loved one, a job, a bunch of keys. You don't want to lose weight. You want to get rid of it. For good. For ever. So forget about losing weight, or you'll find it again. Instead, intend to get rid of it. Dump it, and get rid of it for good and for ever so you can get happy and healthy. That's where your focus should be. Get happy and healthy. And if you find your chosen means to get happy and healthy makes you miserable and sick - like diets do - do something different. Change the way you think.
