Hi

I’m Lawrence Thain. I’m 17, I live in Ham, which is in Richmond, Surrey, I go to Hampton School, and I’m a musician.

I teach children and adults piano, organ and music theory, and accompany exams, up to Associated Board Grade 5.

I retired in November 2004 as Senior Head Chorister from the Choir of the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace, after more than six years’ service, in recognition of which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth kindly dedicated a Book of Common Prayer to me. That’s it in the picture below, and that's me holding it.

I have AB grade 8 (distinction) for piano, grade 8 (distinction) organ, grade 8 (distinction) flute, grade 7 (merit) bassoon,  and grade 6 (distinction) singing. I also play double bass for fun.

I play in all the usual ensembles at school, and played the organ throughout the school carol service, last year and this. I also accompanied the Hampton and Lady Eleanor Holles Joint Choral Society in their rehearsals of Verdi’s Requiem and Handel's Messiah. I also play flute and piccolo with the Thames Youth Orchestra.

I have accompanied people aged 7 to 55 in violin, cello and flute exams (and they all passed, which is great).

In 2004 I won the Advanced Class at the Croydon Organ Festival, and In September 2005 I returned to the Chapel Royal, where I am about to start my third year as Organ Scholar.

I got an A8 for my Music GCSE, an A for my music AS and have just passed the exams to become an Associate of the Royal College of Organists (ARCO).

I'm doing Music, German, and Russian A-levels and have won a scholarship to read Music at New College, Oxford, as their Organ Scholar.

If you would like me to teach you or your child, play at your wedding, or accompany you, your choir or choral society, please e-mail lawrencethain@hotmail.com

Thanks

Lawrence

ps ... Here's a pic of me with my bassoon and a contrabassoon I borrowed from The Rehearsal orchestra for a performance of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.

Oh ... and here's a pic of the Monnig contrabassoon I borrowed from the brilliant Centre for Young Musicians in London, for which many thanks to Francesca Hanley who was fantastically helpful.

And here are some pics of me playing along to Stravinsky's Rites of Spring.
